About URL Encoder / Decoder
Encode and decode URL components directly in your browser using standard JavaScript URL encoding and decoding functions.
How to use URL Encoder / Decoder
- Select Encode to encode text or Decode to decode URL-encoded text.
- Enter your text, URL or encoded URL in the input box.

What is URL Encoding?
URL encoding, also called percent-encoding, converts characters that may have a special meaning in a URL into an encoded representation. Encoded characters are represented using a percent sign followed by hexadecimal digits.
For example, a space can be represented as %20.
URL Encoding Examples
encodeURIComponent vs decodeURIComponent
This tool uses JavaScript's encodeURIComponent() function when encoding and decodeURIComponent() when decoding.
These functions are useful when working with individual URL components such as query parameter values, rather than encoding an entire URL structure indiscriminately.
URL Encoding vs URL Decoding
When should you use URL Encoding?
- Encode query parameter values before placing them in URLs.
- Prepare text containing spaces or special characters for URL components.
- Inspect encoded values returned by APIs or web applications.
- Decode percent-encoded text into readable characters.
- Debug URL-related data during development.
Invalid Encoded Text
When decoding, the input must contain valid percent-encoded sequences. If the encoded text is invalid, the browser's decoding function can throw an error and this tool will display an error message instead of returning an invalid result.
Is my URL or text uploaded to a server?
No. Encoding and decoding are performed directly in your browser using JavaScript. The text does not need to be uploaded to a backend server.
Input Limit
The input and result fields support up to 100,000 characters. Very large values may require additional browser memory and processing time.
